Office/Work Place Emergency Kits

Emergency Kits for Work/Office

Emergencies can occur at nearly any workplace. Besides external hazards and catastrophes, workplace accidents happen more frequently than we'd like. Being prepared with the right first aid, event management tools, and a plan to contain a hazardous situation is key to maneuvering through a traumatic event. Find quality emergency kits for work

Nailed It!

At a previous job a framer put his foot up on a floor and rested his weight on the other leg. His knee was bent and he set his nail gun just above his knee cap without letting go of the trigger. When he set it down, the safety was depressed and 3 nails shot out into his knee.

Quick action from coworkers minimized the damage and they were able to get him to the hospital quickly. Fortunately, they had a great first aid kit on hand and were all trained for accident management.

The right gear and the right training made all the difference.

Many workplaces have required emergency plans and procedures - some are government mandated. For those that don't, now's a great time to take action. Start with the essentials and set a monthly budget to add what's needed. Don't forget to train everyone how to use the gear, you might be the one who benefits!

Workplace Emergency Kits

Every workplace should have some sort of emergency kit. Most offices can get away with minimal gear but should have food and water resources. Job sites, mechanical shops and construction sites should have the appropriate emergency gear and will usually have heavy duty first aid supplies and training.

Fire Suppression

The most common type of emergency is likely fire related. Whether it's a shorted wire, overused microwave, or faulty construction, too often fires are started at a work site.

Be sure to have a fire extinguisher and evacuation plan in place.

Shut Off Tool

Some emergencies require the utilities to be shut off to avoid emergency escalation. For example, in an earthquake, shutting off the gas, water and electricity to a building might save lives.

Keep an emergency shutoff wrench on hand.

Tool Kits

Some emergencies are mechanical in nature. Wrenches, drivers, hammers, etc can make a quick repair.

Make sure to have spare tools on hand in an organized kit.

Flashlight/Headlamp

When the lights go out, working in the dark is miserable and can be dangerous. Be sure you have a flashlight or better yet a headlamp so you can see what you're doing. Also make sure you have working batteries or a crankable light so the batteries last for some time.

First Aid Kits

Small injuries and illnesses are common at work. Handling cuts and scrapes or allergies, stomach problems, etc. should be easy first aid solutions. Every workplace should have a first aid kit and you should know how to use the supplies within.

Some people will want more robust supplies in case of trauma in a working accident. Some kits come with a tourniquet, etc.

Here are the supplies we recommend for every first aid kit. You may need to add items to your kit if it's incomplete:

  • Supplies
    • bandages
    • triangle bandage (for a sling)
    • antiseptic wipes
    • alcohol wipes
    • gauze
    • tweezers
    • More...
  • Medications
    • allergy
    • Tylenol
    • Ibuprofen
    • Pepto Bismol
    • anti-nausea
    • lip treatment
    • More...
  • Toiletries
    • toilet paper
    • feminine hygiene products

Having the supplies is one thing, knowing how to use them is another. Be sure you get some first aid training to know how to treat your passengers.
